shop analysis- Valentino (Selfridges continues)

How do I identify with Valentino
Within the visit to Selfridges we were asked to look a designers that we identify with, therefore one of the designers I immediately thought of was Valentino due to a variety of different reasons as listed below:
·         Floral influence – Valentino uses floral’s in the majority of their collections with great success, mixing small floral motives together to create these very dainty all over prints or placement designs in both printed and embellished. This helps in creating this beautiful feminine quality that is very inspiring for me and that I can identify as this is the kind of style that I desire (and do) produce within my own design work.  The way that they use florals for their key inspiration has a great infinity with my as this is what inspires me as well, taking my references from the nature county environment around me, making it one of the key designers I should look at as it processes the elements I want to incorporate in my work.
·         Timeless quality – the way that they apply their designs onto the garment, the garments shapes and the actual design itself all work together and makes them process this very timeless quality (as it doesn’t get effected by the trends like other brands do) I can identify with this as my style is quality over quantity with me liking to produce designs and garments that are fitting for any time of the year and throughout the years so that the customer can spend more on one quality piece so they don’t have to keep replacing their clothing. Therefore my styling like Valentino is quiet classic but with a modern edge that makes it current but not trend driven like fast fashion.
·         Use of colour – the colours they use especially in their spring summer collections really empathise the femininity of their women’s collections with the softer palettes the use such as the soft pinks and nude tones creating this beautiful girly feeling to the outfit due to the colours link to femininity and there colour theory. This as a result makes the wearer feel more special and girly when wearing the outfit that adds to the women’s feeling of being more desirable (which we always want) the way that I identify with the use of colours as I love to use colours that have some meaning to them to give my designs are more emotional connection to the piece and then make then desire it more so by into my brand (as we are all emotional buyers) which I feel that Valentino do consider due to the way that all the different garments have a different type of feeling to them so also play with the customers emotions. Like Valentino as well I love to use feminine colours as my style is very girly so it fits in well with this brand.
There are many other reasons that I can list about the way that I have an infinity with the brand such as their use of techniques including print and embroidery, but I won’t do due to time restrictions. Overall I feel that this brand is one that fits into my designs well and has all the different elements that I aim to obtain within my own work and fashion textile collections (quality, timeless ect..) therefore this band is one that I will keep on looking at to aid me in the development and tailoring  of my work within the future allowing it to be the most successful it can be with it still staying true to my style, look,  the beliefs I hold and my loves.
