Summary of my future plans
It’s important to always have an original plan even thought
in the years to come they may change completely and you are able to go down a
different route entirely, overall making it invalid. The following is my first
yearly plan of my work/career within the fashion textile industry.
1 year plan:
In one year’s time I will be just starting the final year of
my BA degree in fashion and textiles. These are the objectives and how I will
accomplish them for my 1 year future plan:
·
Find and secure a placement in the fashion
textile market place for some work experience over the summer - this means that I
need to make contact and build up connections with various companies in the
industry, to do this I should send out press packs, show my portfolio off in
interviews etc..
·
Develop an only outlet to showcase my
collections/work successfully online (facebook, blogs, twitter etc.) this would
result me building up an online following to showcase my work, style and
products –
to do this I needed to work with online programmes and social media and create
pages under my brand name to send out each one has to be consistent with my
brand identity and each other then I need to place then on others blogs,
advertising pages etc.
·
Go to as many exhibitions as possible to aid my
understanding and knowledge about different techniques and the industry
contacts/ lifestyle within the industry – to do this I need to keep up to date
with all the shows and trade shows that interest me and that may help me within
my own work and visit them to get a up-close look at the artists items or get
to talk to people/ the artist about their experiences within the industry so i
know what to expect after university.
3 year plan:
In 3 years time I would of finished my BA Degree in fashion
and textiles and out of all education for around a year so here are my plans
for just after I graduate:
·
Developing from the online outlets discusses in
my 1 year plan I will create my own brands website to advertise and sell myself
to my online followers in a more professional way resulting in a greater
following and becoming more well known – to do this I need to advertise on my other online
presence such as facebook about the opening of my website and slowly transfer
items form then onto my website page that I will develop using a professional
influence.
·
Take part in exhibitions and trade shows to
showcase my collections to people within the industry to try and build up
contacts/ buyers for my products – apply for trade shows and exhibition space at places
like new designers and build up a collection of my best work showcasing my
style and best work so professionals can see my product look clearly and decide
if my style is for them
5 year plan:
In 5 years time I would be long out of education and will be
starting my career using my degree to aid me so here is my 5 year plan:
·
Obtain
a job that specialises in my degree subject fashion and textiles that I enjoy,
designing prints for both fashion and interiors – to accomplish this i need to build up
my connections in the industry and develop my work, skills and knowledge to the
best of my ability showcasing my prints in a professional portfolio for
interviews within my section of the market.
·
Establish
my own company/brand out of my website and social media outlets as a sideline
to my job within the industry to step towards becoming independent and
recognised as an individual within the fashion textile market- to do this I need
to really advertise myself well/professionally to build up a good recognition within
the industry on my own merit and gain a great following to be able to support
myself when I go of on my own. I also need to build up a further knowledge and
understanding of the industry to really aid me and help my brand become successful
·
To
be more developed within my digital imagery as well as my techniques within my
print work to make my work more established and sophisticated within the
industry – to
do this I just need to keep experimenting with different techniques and
practise them to become refined in my specialist section within the market
place (practise makes perfect)
More future plans that need to be
accomplished
Some future
plans don’t fit into a time scale but instead need to be developed and updated all
the time due to the ever changing nature of the fashion textile industry so
here are some brief summaries of these aspects:
·
Digital
medias – I need to be accomplished in the digital medias used within the
industry such as Photoshop, Illustrator, keledo and more to really be able to
develop my work in the most industry used professional way to be able to apply
it to industry. For this I need to keep up to date with all the new
technologies due to the way that employers will not want individuals that do
not have this good knowledge and skills - to accomplish this I need to do the following: to do
workshops in all programmes that I will need to use within the industry to
build up my skill set within them. To
keep up to date with all the new programmes so that I am not “left behind” and
can develop the skills within them so I can apply them to the industry to work
in a professional way so that I don’t have such a steep learning curve when get
a placement within the market place. Lastly I just need to play around with the
different programmes to gain my skills and understanding while also building up
a digital identity.
·
Technique development – to be very developed
in a variety of different printing techniques and specialise in one to create
my own personal style to have an identity within the industry. this plan will
always be consistent within my career as you will always have to keep
developing to become the most current within the industry – to accomplish
this i need to keep experimenting with different medias, techniques and
materials to refine myself and build up a successful sophistication within them
and to then develop further to
specialise in one sector. I need to keep
drawing and create a advance visual imagery to really refine my style and to
have fun and be inventive with my designs as if you’re not happy when doing it
you won’t put as much effort into it so will not develop to the full of your
capability.
